Jägerbombers Update

As we approach round 9 in season play, the third place JÄGERBOMBERS, with six wins and two losses against their name face perhaps their most formidable opponent this season. This week, they battle THE FORCE (7 wins, 1 loss), a team sitting in second place on the ladder thanks to the inclusion of a star import (who can dunk!) to an already fully-stacked team.

THE FORCE have scored more points than any other team this season and have only dropped one game; against the COMETS in round two after missing several key players. They look to use their superior size and strength to crush the smaller, faster JÄGERBOMBERS and put their stamp on the season they have continued to dominate, including wins over the first place WESTSIDE HUSTLERS (Round 7, 55-41), fourth placed MIXTURES (Round 5, 67-58), and last week’s walloping of the COUGARS (79-26).

However the JÄGERBOMBERS, led by flashy point guard and floor leader, Cail Rayment a.k.a. “the GOAT”, a.k.a. “the Black Mamba” (pictured), as always will not go down without a fight. They’ve shown that even against opponents with more height and firepower, that with their tenacious play and spirited teamwork, they can compete with the best in the league. But they’ll need more than just fancy teamwork and a trapping defense to beat the league’s powerhouse this week as without big man Grant Fisher, the JAGERBOMBERS are left with only 6”5’ guard/forward point/centre Liam Crowson [happy now Liam?] to battle and crash the boards against the biggest team in league history.

Spreading the floor in offense, and the use of strong ball reversals to open up driving lanes is the key to neutralising THE FORCE’s size advantage before slashing to the basket. Look for attacking moves down the lane from Goat to draw defenders before finding the open Crowson or driving Sullivan for the easy deuce. The key to beating THE FORCE at the other end of the court is through constant, strong denial of the ball by the JÄGERBOMBERS away from FORCE’s key players. Once danger players get the ball near the basket (and this is inevitable), look for JÄGERBOMBER players to foul FORCE players, making them earn points from the foul line, rather than cheap points under the basket.

Be there to catch all the action when:
